The Race

Prepare for an epic adventure in the Greenlandic wilderness!

Whether you're an experienced runner or new to adventure marathons, we’ve got everything you need to ensure a safe, successful, and thrilling run. 

Below you will find practical information about the race such as race route details, distances, terrain, timing, safety precautions and tips for clothing and gear in Arctic conditions. If you cannot find the answer you are seeking, feel free to contact us with your questions.

Packing Instructions

It's crucial to bring the right clothing and equipment for safety purposes.

Some mandatory equipment must be worn and carried by the participant throughout the race, while other items will be transported between camps by sledge and will be available to you at the finish line of each stage.

Remember, cold-weather gear is key to a safe and enjoyable race!

Note: The race management reserves the right to exclude participants who do not bring the mandatory gear for safety reasons. 

Distances & Eligibility

The total distance is 160 kilometers, divided into three stages.

  • Day 1: 58 km
  • Day 2: 52 km
  • Day 3: 55 km

Age limit

All runners must be at least 18 years old on race day.

Route & Elevation

Surface: Expect to run on frozen tundra, sea ice and snow. 

Cut-off times

To ensure runners' safety, a time limit and a cut-off point have been established at each stage.

Total time per stage: 11 hours 

Halfway Cut-off: 5,5 hours

Runners who haven't reached the cut-off points or the finish line in time will not be allowed to continue and will be picked up by a race official on a snowmobile and taken to the camp. The cut-off times are strictly enforced to keep everyone safe! 

Your camp

A mobile tented camp will be set up by the organizers and ready to welcome runners at the end of each day's stage. 

After crossing the finish line, participants can relax in their own tent or meet fellow runners and prepare their own meals in a heated communal tent. Hot water is available for cooking. 

All participants will share a tent with a fellow runner during the race. 

* Sleeping bag, sleeping mat, and liners are available for rent upon registration. 

Goodie bag & Start number

Goodie Bag 

All international participants will receive their goodie bags at Copenhagen Airport, before checking in the flight to Greenland. 

Your bag will contain:

  • Race t-shirt
  • Start number
  • Route information
  • Itinerary

Start number / Bib number

Your start number must be placed on the front of your body, and be visible at all times during the race. We recommend that you use a race belt, but safety pins will also work. 

 

 

Time-taking & Results

Time taking is done by Albatros Adventure Marathon race officials. 

During the race, the result list will be updated every evening and published in the communal tent. 

The complete results will be available online after the race.

Medical Team

A Danish doctor and paramedics will be present during the entire tour. 

The Medical Team and race officials will be positioned along the route, but will not be able to monitor all parts at all times. We kindly ask all runners to look out for each other and report to the race officials or the medical team if you see a fellow runner in need of help. 

If you take daily medication prescribed by your physician, please inform us in advance via email upon booking.

 

Note: The medical team reserves the right to remove any runner who is deemed unable to complete the race. All decisions made by the Medical Team or Race Officials are final. 
 

Safety Precautions

Training

Training in navigation, emergency procedures, hypothermia, communication, and the use of emergency equipment in Arctic conditions will be held the day before the race, led by experienced instructors.

Safety equipment

GPS tracking is used to monitor the runners. 

In Kangerlussuaq, you will be provided with a Garmin inReach, which will follow you throughout the race and track your position. 

This device allows you to communicate with officials and call for help if necessary, as well as enabling rescue personnel to locate you.

2027: March 18 -20

Registration closes one month before the tour package begins. The race is limited to 24 spots - we recommend booking early to guarantee your spot.

Photos

Professional photos will be taken during the event. A complimentary photo package will be ready for download for all runners. 

Prizes and Awards

All finishers receive a symbolic medal, handcrafted by locals. Small trophies are given to the winners for men and women. Note that there is no prize money.
